April 9th, 2025 – LET'S START AT THE END.
It was a meet that started with baton handoffs and ended with hugs. The Pacific Grove Breakers turned in a dominant performance against North Salinas (Boys: 84–52, Girls: 95–39), but the real highlight came after the final event, when the infield turned into a celebration of legacy, laughter, and a some happy tears.
Before the nostalgia floodgates opened, the Breakers got down to business—and the relays were the star of the meet.
The Breakers men's team took to the line, only to find that they had no competitor to join them. Senior Helen Hanalla threw out the idea of a "throwers relay". Not sure if she was serios or joking, the idea took off. Not only did PG get a throwers relay, But North Salinas joined in the fun. Sprinting over from the shot put ring, came 2 teams of throwers to join the race. Then, itch to join got to the coaches. Where PG's very own, Coach Faust, Coach Dylan, Coach Amanda, Coach Caleb from Trinity Christian rounded out the team. My vocabulary is unable to describe the race that ensued. Good thing there is video!
A RELAY FOR THE AGES
After the final baton crossed the line and the competition wrapped, the lights stayed on and the feels turned all the way up. The Pacific Grove Breakers closed the evening with a celebration fit for legends: Senior Night for the Class of 2025.
With the team gathered on the infield, Yeva Yevdash and Travis Travaille took the mic to lead a heartfelt tribute to this year’s graduating class. And let’s just say—someone was definitely chopping onions nearby.
This year’s seniors—Gideon Llantero, Meredith Evans, Helen Hanalla, Mauna Mohamadi, Mackenzie Keller, Matias De La Garza Zubieta, Robbie Meek, Jasmine Samuels, and Ella Smith—stood proudly as their teammates honored them with speeches, stories, and just the right amount of gentle roasting. It was part pep rally, part therapy session, part comedy hour—and all love.
The highlight? Custom Mickey Ears (yes, those Mickey Ears), each one emblazoned with the Breakers track logo and “Class of 2025.” Because what better way to send off a group that’s about to board a bus to the “Happiest Place on Earth” than with some Disney flair? This group’s been pure magic from the start.
These seniors have hurdled the highs and lows, sprinted through four unforgettable years, and left serious marks on the record boards—and on everyone’s hearts.
From clutch relay legs to unforgettable practice shenanigans, they’ve been the soul of the team. And though their time on this track is winding down, their legacy is far from finished.
You will be missed.
