With 31 Breaker athletes looking to break the ice on the 2025 season, the weather obliged—by keeping it cold. The sun made only a brief appearance during the eight-hour meet at Palma School, but that didn’t stop our Breakers from setting the tone early.
The pits and pads saw plenty of top performances, with multiple Breakers landing in the top five. Junior Trenton Maciel claimed 1st place in the Triple Jump (36’ 11”), while fellow junior Travis Travaille secured 1st in the Long Jump (19’ 6”). Sophomore Betinho Zunguze wasn’t far behind, earning 3rd place in the Long Jump (18’ 10.5”).
On the girls’ side, senior Meredith Evans took 2nd in the High Jump (4’ 2”), and junior Sophia Schultz placed 4th in the Long Jump (14’ 5.25”). Sophomores Briana Sabdo and Mariella Norris, placed 1 and 2 in the Frosh/Soph Triple jump (24' 2" and 21' 4").
On the track, sophomore Nika Berezina dominated the distance races, winning the 3200 meters with a PR time of 13:14.55. Earlier in the day, she also PR'd and placed 2nd in the 1600 meters (5:57.88).
More important than winning or losing, the Breakers showed what it truly means to be a team today. Lining the track and cheering on our squad is what makes this team so special. I can’t wait to see what they accomplish next! I hope to see you all cheering us on at the Haybaler Meet next week in Hollister.
