The Breakers got their first taste of league competition yesterday at the Cypress Jamboree, facing off against Monte Vista Christian, Seaside, Marina, Santa Catalina, and host North Salinas. With the team nearly at full strength, they delivered in a big way—racking up 63 new PRs and 19 first-place finishes across all four divisions.
Leading the charge was senior Meredith Evans, who doubled up on wins in the 400m (1:06.21) and High Jump (4'4"). Freshman Liliana Papandreopoulos made her mark in the JV division, earning two victories of her own in the 800m (3:00.98) and 1600m (6:51.05).
On the boys' side, sophomore Sergen Serttunc dominated the field events, taking first in the High Jump (5'8") and tying with junior Travis Travaille for first in the Long Jump (19'9"). Travis also sprinted to victory in the 100m (11.49).
Senior Tony Gabrik continues to shine in the hurdles, winning the 300m hurdles (47.73), and showing his range by also claiming the win in the grueling 3200m (10:25.7).
Beyond the stats, one thing was clear—the Breakers brought the energy. Whether on the track, in the field, or cheering from the sidelines, they set the tone and made sure their voices were heard, drowning out the competition in true Breaker fashion.
The Breakers now take a break from competition as they prepare for the 55th Rotary Invitational, hosted at home on March 29th. We hope to see a big, loud local crowd there to cheer them on!
