The Pacific Grove High School Track & Field team turned heads at the Rotary Invitational, delivering standout performances across multiple events. With personal records (PRs) falling like dominos and top finishes that highlighted their hard work, PG athletes proved they are a force to be reckoned with.
Leading the charge in the sprints, Travis Travaille took care of business in the Varsity 100m and 200m, taking first place in both with a 11.18 in the 100m and 23.04 in the 200m—both PRs. In the Frosh/Soph division, Joseph Grief (56.51) claimed the 400m title, showcasing his impressive grit.
On the girls’ side, Jasmine Samuels clocked a 13.83 in the 100m, finishing 10th, while Eliana Villela shined in the Frosh/Soph 400m, taking 2nd in 1:08.31 as well as taking 6th in the 200 (30.31 PR). Meredith Evans set a new PR (1:04.81) in the 400 taking 5th.
PG's distance crew was on fire, led by Antony Gabrik, who won the 1600m in 4:34.52 and placed 2nd in the 3200m (10:10.02). Betinho Zunguze continued his ascent in the Frosh/Soph distance scene, taking 3rd in the 1600m (4:52.86) and 3rd in the 800m (2:12.89).
PG hurdlers stepped up with Antony Gabrik finishing 3rd in the 300m hurdles (45.31 PR). In the jumps, Travis Travaille soared to 2nd place in the long jump (21-00.75), while Sergen Serttunc won the Frosh/Soph long jump with an impressive 19-09.50 PR. Serttunc also took 1st in the Frosh/Soph high jump (5-08).
On the girls’ side, Meredith Evans cleared 4-08 for 2nd in the varsity high jump, and Sophia Schulz landed a 4th place finish in varsity long jump (15-08.25).
In the throws, Gideon Llantero placed 6th in varsity shot put (37-00.50 SR) with Matias De La Garza Zubieta only half and inch behind at 37-00.00 PR. Helen Hanalla took 4th in both shot put and discus with throws of 25-09.00 and 90-07. For the Frosh/Soph girls, Molly Selfridge (29-01.25 PR), Klea Kullolli (26-08.75 PR), and Dylan Llantero (26-02.00 PR) placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the shot put.
PG’s relay squads capped off the day with strong performances. The Frosh/Soph boys 4x400m team (Grief, Sharma, Serttunc, Zunguze) won in 3:49.88, while the Frosh/Soph girls 4x100m team (Gamecho, Kullolli, Keller, Villela) took 2nd in 57.78.
With multiple wins, podium finishes, and PRs, PG athletes showcased their talent and determination. As the season progresses, expect even more stellar performances from this hardworking squad. The Breakers are just getting started!
